Our brand continues to grow and we’ve recently expanded into the cabinetry space with the launch of a custom cabinet shop, NXT Cabinets, with one of our own leading the way. Today we’d like to introduce Tim Drew, former trim specialist for NEXT, and the new NXT Cabinets Shop Manager.
Meet Tim Drew: NXT Cabinets Manager
Q: Tell us about your role? What does a day-in-the-life look like for you?
Well, I used to work exclusively on trim, doors, and baseboard with NEXT Custom Homes, but now that I’ve moved over to NXT Cabinets, I’ve passed the torch along to my younger brothers Josy, Jesse, and Danny. Sometimes I help out with renderings or mockups. Now, my days are spent in the shop. I work on pretty much everything! From meeting with clients, creating bids, to designing the cabinet renderings and then fabrication. I’ve learned how to use specialized software, develop plans, run the CNC Factory equipment, and more. Every day is different.
Q: How long have you been part of the NEXT team?
My dad and I are the originals. We started working on home construction together with my older brother, Jacob when we first moved to Texas. I’ve been part of the NEXT team since the beginning.
Q: What do you love about your job?
It’s really rewarding to see the finished product. It’s fulfilling to see a rendering I’ve made come to life. The design process is pretty fun, but it’s tricky to get inside a client’s head sometimes to know what they like. Then it’s up to me to figure that out and make it real.
Q: What’s it like working alongside your family?
Oh you know, it probably has more advantages than disadvantages! All-in-all it is nice to see them all the time. Everyone has a good handle on what they are doing and they know their roles. It’s fun training the younger ones with my dad. Honestly, every one of the older brothers trains the younger siblings! It comes with the territory.
Q: Tell us about your favorite project
My favorite project was Hartford. It had a lot of details but was very rewarding in the end. The kitchen cabinets turned out amazing and I helped install the dining room lighting, which was really cool. The big pocket door to the office was a fun challenge too, I love how it turned out, even if it was really hard to figure out! I also helped design the renderings for the interior and exterior stairs, and both of those were really unique.
Q: Do you have any role models?
My dad, I suppose!
Q: What are your future goals?
I really want to get NXT Cabinets up and running smoothly. There are still bumps every day, but we’ll get through them.
Q: What’s your favorite movie?
The Fall. It’s great.
Q: What is one thing you couldn’t live without?
My computer.
