Meet The Dynamic Duo: Mike and Vanessa

Q: Where does the NEXT story begin?

Vanessa: We originally started as a Real Estate business called Creative Property Solutions, helping Austin residents buy a home, renovate it, and then sell. Mike has worked in building and construction since he was 15 years old, so he knows a thing or two about the business. We’ve had a lot of fun and great success with CPS, but after a few years decided to focus Mike’s extensive experience on the building side of Real Estate. 

Q: Tell us more about the NEXT team. Who are you?

Vanessa: We’re a local family-owned and operated business, including Mike, his sons, and myself. Mike handles all the building logistics and gets a lot of help from his sons, who all have different, yet valuable skills. His sons have respect for Mike’s experience, they all learn from him. And, they bring the muscle! I manage more of the brand and design side of the business. I’m the one working with clients and partners on a daily basis. You’ll find me networking, fundraising and pretty much handling anything done behind-the-scenes!

Q: How would you classify or describe your work/design aesthetic? 

Mike: We call it Transitional Contemporary. We try to envision how the new owners will live in their space and make it as functional as possible, while also creating something beautiful. Take a look at our Portfolio or Instagram and you’ll get an idea.

Q. Where in Austin do you primarily build homes?

Mike: You can see our work in Central Austin and Westlake. We build custom homes throughout the Austin area.

Q: What makes you different from other builders? 

Vanessa: We’re transparent, caring, and companionate. We try to be attentive to all of our client’s needs. More information is better and communication is key. We don’t need to be micromanaged, yet always welcome questions or concerns, to make sure the client gets what they want.

From a design perspective, we like to take a concept and turn it on its head to see if we can do it differently. Give it our own spin with our own creative ideas. We’re able to take a concept and come up with multiple ways of execution.  

Q: What’s in the future for NEXT?

Vanessa: Our goal is to continue to build quality custom homes year after year. If that means removing a rundown ugly home that’s unlivable and replacing it with a new quality home, we’ll do it. At NEXT we aren’t just builders, we’re a family training the next generation with the skills they can use forever, the skills needed to work effectively with people. We like to think of ourselves as an extension of your family too and look forward to helping local families create lasting memories in their new homes.
